What Will You Learn?
You will take a tour of the skincare industry from ancient times to the present day. You will learn about the skin itself, understanding how different skin types need products of different formulations. You will also learn how to create formulas and convert them into recipes, with 13 different skincare formulas available to you as part of your learning. Finally, and just as importantly, we will cover guidance on how to legally establish your business, label accurately, manage sales and deal with retailers, as well as promote and market your business.
The Organic Skincare Business Diploma Course opens by looking at the rapid growth of the organic skincare industry today, noting that it doesn’t show signs of slowing down. You’ll learn what has prompted its growth and what the most popular products are within the industry. You’ll also touch on niche markets and why it’s a good idea to narrow down who you are selling to.
From this introduction, the course moves on to give a brief overview on skincare through the ages, highlighting the fact that people have been looking after their skin in whichever way they thought best since the days of Ancient Egypt and the Roman Empire. Once arriving at the modern age, you’ll delve into some of the challenges faced by organic skincare makers today while noting the problems that still exist around toxic ingredients in chemically-based cosmetic products.
As a skincare producer, you will need to know how the skin performs and the potential effects of products on both different parts and different types of skin. Thus, the Organic Skincare Business Diploma Course teaches how the different skin layers function and introduces you to the four main types of skin that skincare producers serve.
The Organic Skincare Business Diploma Course takes you on an exploration of the tools you’ll need and the various skin care ingredients that you’ll likely use for creating your own product range. It also guides you through the various elements that make up your lotions, creams or spritzes – including different types of base or carrier oils, butters, waxes, essential oils, and the various emulsifiers, preservatives, thickeners and humectants used in skincare products.
Delving deeper into the practical side of things, you will learn the principles of formulating a skincare product and start creating your own skincare formula and recipe with a few basic and intermediate skincare formulations for the face. You’ll make gorgeous and effective lotions, creams and body butters for various skin types and learn the difference between creams, lotions and body butters, before being given a breakdown of how an emulsion is developed.
You will learn about some of the external and internal aspects of anti-ageing skincare that we can and cannot control. An understanding of both factors is important for the accurate development of products for older skin. The course also examines what essential ingredients are best used in anti-ageing skin products and offers a number of effective anti-ageing skincare recipes.
The latter portion of the Organic Skincare Business Diploma Course teaches you how to sell your products legally in the UK, highlighting current EU regulations and guidelines. You will also learn about the importance of accurate labelling, discovering what must go on your product labels and how to write them so that your customers can be assured of what they are putting on their skin. You will also be shown how to test some of your own products so that you are confident that they are of high quality in terms of health and safety.
The course guides you through budgeting your business, what costs will be involved, what to consider when figuring out your product prices, what fulfilment means and whether you should do this or delegate, and how to make contact with and work with retailers.
You need to be able to promote and market your business to get sales for your products and this module focuses in on that. You will learn about the importance of branding and what that actually means. You will also be guided in creating a marketing strategy with details of what that should entail. The course also provides some ideas of what content you can produce for social media marketing.
