Here are the main benefits:
Most face masks and shields do a pretty good job of protecting against the transmission of coronavirus in exhaled droplets.
However, only Clearshield can also protect you from the main, and arguably more dangerous, method of transmission which is from touching contaminated surfaces and then transferring the coronavirus to your face and nose.
Clearshield is one of the safest coverings you can buy, here’s why:
It’s quick and easy to clean with soap and water or sanitizer, clean it as often as you wash your hands. This is absolutely critical and impossible with a cloth or fabric covering.
It has very few contact points so minimizes virus transfer to your face and nose.
It’s very light and comfortable so you WILL be able to wear it all the time for maximum protection.
It’s suitable for asthmatics and others who are hard of breathing and who would otherwise go maskless and put themselves at risk.
It’s great for communicating with the hard of hearing (most people remove their cloth masks to talk, putting themselves and others at risk).
It’s 100% reusable and recyclable so will last for weeks and doesn’t create a Bio or Eco Hazard.
Fabric and cloth face masks are notorious for transferring coronavirus
They mop up the virus from contaminated surfaces and smear it onto your mouth and lips. If this happens you’re likely to become infected with Covid-19 and it’s the main reason the Government believes face masks offer little personal protection against the virus.
Coronavirus is spread by droplets and micro droplets from an infected person hitting you in the face, the mouth and to a far lesser extend the eyes.
Face coverings can prevent you from directly infecting others and to prevent others from infecting you. They stop people spitting on you and you spitting on them.
So why do Governments claim that masks are effective in stopping you from infecting others but are far less affective at stopping others infecting you? Surely they work the same both ways don’t they?
Yes they do, but remember there are more ways to catch the virus than just breathing in droplets and a poorly fitting, uncomfortable or incorrectly used mask makes these other methods of viral transmission MUCH worse.
And most fabric or cloth masks are so hot, sweaty, itchy and uncomfortable most people don’t wear them properly or as often as they should.
You’re more likely to encounter the virus on surfaces than directly from other people
What are the chances that you’ll come face to face with an infected person not wearing a mask? I’m sure you’d agree it’s fairly unlikely. But this is the main setting where masks are designed to protect you.
On the other hand consider hard surfaces such as worktops, tables, railings etc. Thousands of people a day will exhale droplets onto these surfaces and some will have coronavirus.
When you or your mask touches these surfaces there’s a really high chance of picking up coronavirus. This is one of the most common means of transmission and explains why Governments are so obsessed with hand washing. (and mask washing).
How about the fabric or cloth mask that’s used by you, a family member or work colleague?
A mask that’s been worn out and about for hours on end has soaked up all the coronavirus in the air and on the surfaces it touches. That’s the whole point of a mask right?
But now it’s been used you really don’t want to touch it, let alone put it on your face!
A fabric mask is a virus magnet. People hate masks, they take them off, they fiddle with them, they put them down on contaminated surfaces, they hang them up with other possibly contaminated masks, and they lay them on top of other masks that may contain the virus.
And coronavirus is proven to live on a fabric or cloth face mask for anywhere between 3 and 7 days.
Wearing a Scarf or Bandana is playing Russian roulette with the virus
If you make your own covering from a scarf, how do you even know which side is the inside, the safe side?
If it’s done its job properly and soaked up the airborne virus you have a 50/50 chance of putting that virus straight into your mouth.
So what can you do to protect yourself – Just be VERY careful (Or wear Clearshield)
You must remember to wash or replace your mask VERY often!
Coronavirus doesn’t sit on top of the fabric or cloth. As you walk around in public your mask is soaking up the virus which sits in the gaps between the weave, festering alongside the other contaminants and pollutants from the air. Coronavirus sits there for up to seven days contaminating everything it touches.
So don’t put that mask in your handbag, your car door pocket or hang it with others from the air vents.
And if you do need to pick it up again then please wear gloves.
If you put your mask down on a contaminated surface and then put it on your face, you’ll transfer the virus directly onto your nose and mouth. Don’t do it!
If you put your mask down on another contaminated mask you’re collecting even more of the virus and transferring that onto your face as well! Don’t do it!
How about if you accidentally pick up and use someone else’s mask, even worse an infected person’s mask? (after all they all look the same). You don’t even want to think about that, but it happens.
Before she had ClearShield my wife once accidentally put her blue hygiene mask on inside out (blue side to her mouth) if that mask had done its job and soaked up coronavirus droplets it’s 100% certain she’d have been infected. One small slip is all it takes.
Don’t use that blue surgical/hygiene mask for more than a few hours
The very popular blue surgical/hygiene masks shouldn’t be used for more than 4 hours after which they need to be safely disposed of.
(Safe disposal means putting them in a paper bag for 3 days or soaking them for an hour or so in 5% bleach solution before throwing them in the household waste).
DON’T THROW THEM AWAY WITHOUT DISINFECTING THEM. DON’T THROW THEM ON THE STREET OR IN RIVERS OR IN THE SEA.
Because it’s not reusable this mask is a really expensive option that presents many ways for you to catch the virus.
Reusable Fashion Cloth Masks and KN95 Mask must be washed every day
They’re better than the blue hygiene mask because they can and must be cleaned after each use.
Fashion cloth masks work as well as a damp cloth for mopping up the virus from surfaces and putting it onto your mouth, not great.
You should replace these masks as soon as they become damp and sweaty; Wash them in a domestic washing machine or commercial sanitizer between uses.
A top tip is a buy 5 or so masks in a variety of colours so you don’t accidently wear one for more than a day between washes.
REMEMBER THE GOVERNMENT HAS ASKED THAT THE PUBLIC DON’T BUY KN95 MASKS WHICH ARE RESERVED FOR MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS.
Face coverings are important but used wrongly can make things worse
Face Coverings are a key tool in our efforts to limit the spread of this highly contagious and dangerous virus.
But to be effective they need to be used correctly and washed or replaced frequently. Most people are too busy to take the essential precautions needed when using cloth and fabric masks.
Clearshield is a great solution for most people and is essential for anyone who has problems wearing conventional cloth or fabric face coverings and would otherwise have to go maskless.
